A Passing Member
It is with deep regret and heartache that the Stirling Fire Company announces the passing of the death of our oldest member,
Past Chief Angelo Cerulli.
Chief Cerulli, turned 100 on July 20, 2020. He's lived in the town all his life. A WW2 veteran, discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked for the U.S. GSA as a Federal Firefighter in Belle Meade, NJ, rising to the rank of Chief which he retired from in 1974. Through 1986 he was the maintenance supervisor for the township schools. He was Chief of the Stirling fire company 1962 - 1971, the longest consecutive tenure in company history. In fact, from 1939 through 1978, either he or one of his brothers, Dan, or Frank, served as chief for 30 of those years. He is a life member and the longest-serving member at 79 years. He was the township's first fire marshal and was instrumental in passing the no open burning ordinance after large brush fires in the early 60s. Thank you Chief Cerulli for your service to, Our township and Our country, thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, Rest In Peace Chief.
Visitation is at Valley Memorial Funeral Home Friday from 5pm to 8 pm. A funeral mass is Saturday 10 am mass at Saint Vincent.
